☆Highlights☆
〇 We will display 10 original works by Matsuo Bashō, including 3 Yamagata City designated cultural properties (including those in the permanent exhibition).
〇 We will also display Bashō's genuine calligraphy, the `ku-bun kaishi` (poem slip) 'Yo ni furu mo'. In this work, Matsuo Bashō reflects on the journeys of past poets and literati, and his own outlook on life shines through.
〇 We will also display 'Haru mo Yaya,' a `hokku ga-san` (haiku painting with inscription) co-created by Bashō and his disciple Morikawa Kyoroku. It is one of the masterpieces of haiga (haiku painting) from the Edo period.
