December 1, Reiwa 5 – February 5, Reiwa 6 (Closed during the exhibition period: Wednesdays, December 27 – January 3)

The Yamadera Basho Memorial Museum's collection includes materials showing the haikai and activities of Matsuo Basho and his disciples, as well as materials introducing a part of the history of haiku since the Meiji period. Furthermore, thanks to the generosity of their owners, many indispensable materials for narrating literary history, such as the (Yama) Hasegawa Collection, which can be called a treasure trove of valuable cultural assets, and the Eibara Taizo / Ogata Tsutomu Collection, which can also be called a treasure trove of Japanese literature materials, have been donated, leading to a dramatic enrichment of our collected works.
This time, we will select and exhibit masterpieces of calligraphy and painting from the Yamadera Basho Memorial Museum's collection. This will be an exhibition where visitors can appreciate the aesthetic sensibilities characterized by each era, and the exquisite individual expressions of each artist, across various calligraphic and pictorial works from the early modern period to the present day. We hope you will enjoy the diversity of expression and beauty in these works of calligraphy and painting.
