October 29 (Sat)
Yoshitsune's Journey, Basho's Journey Mr. Harufumi Yamamoto YAMAMOTO Harufumi
◇The journey of Oku no Hosomichi also aimed to visit the footsteps of people related to the Genpei War. The year Genroku 2 (1689), when Basho traveled, was the 500th anniversary of Yoshitsune's demise in Hiraizumi. Numerous Yoshitsune legends remain in Michinoku. We will examine how Yoshitsune's image appeared in the eyes of the traveler Basho.

 November 6 (Sun)
Basho's View of Nature in 'Oku no Hosomichi' Mr. Satoshi Kanisawa KANISAWA Satoshi
◇Viewing 'Oku no Hosomichi' from a geological perspective. The opening line, "The months and days are travelers of eternity, and the years that come and go are also travelers," concisely encapsulates Basho's view of nature and philosophy. Contributing significantly to this background are Japan's location in the mid-latitudes, a subduction zone with many volcanoes and earthquakes, and geographical conditions blessed with seasonal changes.

Around the Founding of Risshakuji Temple Mr. Hiroyuki Yamaguchi YAMAGUCHI Hiroyuki
◇I would like to explain about the founding period of Yamadera Risshakuji Temple, a famous sacred temple of the Tendai sect. While the founding of Risshakuji Temple is steeped in the legend of Jikaku Daishi Ennin, direct historical sources are scarce. In this talk, I would like to interpret the aspects of Risshakuji Temple's founding period based on the content of my previously published work, 'Yamadera Risshakuji'.
