☆Highlights☆

〇 19 original calligraphies by Matsuo Basho and 8 original calligraphies by Yosa Buson will be publicly exhibited at once, including 4 Prefecturally Designated Cultural Properties and 6 City Designated Cultural Properties.

〇 "Basho Shokan (Basho's Letter, addressed to Mt. Dewa Sanzan associates)" is exhibited alongside the Prefecturally Designated Cultural Property "Ten'yu Hoin Tsuito Kubun Kaishi (Poem and Essay Commemorating Monk Ten'yu)". It is a valuable document that clarifies the background of Basho's instructions for corrections in it. It is also known as the document whose authenticity as Basho's own writing was confirmed on the popular TV program "Kaiun! Nandemo Kanteidan."

〇 The Prefecturally Designated Cultural Property "Buson Kugō Harimaze Byōbu (Buson's Haiku Drafts Pasted Screen)" is a screen adorned with Buson's own haiku drafts pasted onto it. It is a prized piece, authenticated as Buson's autograph by his disciple Goshun (Matsumura Gekkei), who then added illustrations. This is its first public exhibition at our museum.

〇 The City Designated Cultural Property "Kōsekikō Zu (Painting of Huang Shigong)," showcasing Yosa Buson's realistic painting skill to its fullest, is exhibited together with "Setchū Sōa Zu (Two Crows in Snow)," painted in Buson's other style, an emotionally evocative manner. The exhibition allows visitors to truly appreciate the breadth of Buson's artistic expression.

The exhibition offers rich content. Please come and see it.
