Pastiche Scroll with Basho's Letter to Kyorai and Other Works. One scroll, ink on paper. Authored by Matsuo Basho and others. Genroku 4 (1691). [Basho's letter is in the upper right]
〔Explanation〕
This single scroll features a letter from Basho addressed to his disciple Kyorai, "Kōroki" by Morikawa Kyoroku (a prominent figure in the Basho school), and twenty-two *hokku* (starting verses) on *shikishi* (decorated paper squares) and *tanzaku* (narrow poem cards) by poets of the Basho school and those associated with Basho. It is believed to have been passed down through Kyorai's lineage of disciples.
